Luis Costa

Luís Costa began his piano studies at the age of eight with Zhuang Xiao Hua and later continued his musical education with his long-time teacher, Álvaro Teixeira Lopes. His artistic development was further shaped through work with Joaquin Soriano, Friedemann Rieger, Guigla Katsarava, and Maria João Pires.
He has established an internationally acclaimed career, performing in Spain, France, Italy, Germany, England, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, the United States, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Canada, Brazil, and China. He has appeared in prestigious concert venues including the Sala Suggia at Casa da Música, Glenn Gould Studio, Auditorio Ciudad de León, Centro Cultural de Belém, Xinghai Concert Hall, and Hebei Arts Center.
He is also a regular guest at international festivals such as the Sant Pere de Rodes Festival, Festival Percursos da Música, St. Mesnil des Arts Festival, the Novos Talentos Series at Teatro do Campo Alegre, Festival Musique en Vallée du Tarn, Ciclo de Jóvenes Intérpretes de Zaragoza, Besalú Music Festival, and the Hammerklavier Series.
Luís Costa attended the Doctoral Programme at the University of Aveiro, where he also taught in 2016. He regularly gives masterclasses at conservatories and music schools throughout Portugal and has also taught in China, Belgium, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and France. He is the Artistic Coordinator of the Santa Cecília International Competition.
He has recorded for RTP, Antena 2, Radio CHIN, and NBC Television. He is represented by KNS Artists Management. His recordings have been released by KNS Classical (Spain), AVA Editions (Portugal), and Decurio (Germany). For Decurio, he recorded a programme devoted to Portuguese composers with his brother, Fernando Costa, at the Grand Auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
In recent years, Luís Costa has devoted part of his artistic activity to jazz and composition. One of his recent projects featured the live performance of an original score for Alfred Hitchcock’s silent film The Lodger. More recently, together with Rui Pinheiro and the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, he made the first recording of works by Luiz Costa, Cláudio Carneyro, and Anne Victorino d’Almeida.
This season, he presents two new projects: Schumann’s Theory (with Nuno Campos and João Cardita) and Catalogue of Nature (for piano and electronics, with Óscar Rodrigues and Filipe Fernandes).
